Further, he has written numerous articles on disability insurance. David M. Lilienstein also was part of the team that tried the Hangarter v. Provident (UnumProvident, now referred to as Unum) case, which remains a landmark disability insurance case.

Alice J. Wolfson has a proven record of success in bad faith insurance cases, with an emphasis on individual disability insurance policies. In the landmark case of Hangarter v. Provident (UnumProvident), which has become one of the most frequently quoted disability insurance cases, she and her legal team obtained a five-million-dollar punitive damages award for her client. Further, she obtained a unanimous verdict in the federal court in McGregor v. Paul Revere (UnumProvident). Both awards were upheld by unanimous appellate verdicts.

Her preeminence among insurance attorneys has earned Alice J. Wolfson regular speaking engagements across the nation, sponsored by the American Trial Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and other highly regarded organizations. Further, she has authored numerous articles about insurance law and is a past chair of the Insurance Law Section of the American Association for Justice.

Katie J. Spielman represents people with disabilities, workers, and insurance consumers when their benefits are improperly terminated or denied. Katie J. Spielman is committed to advancing the rights and interests of people with disabilities, and to ensuring that insurance companies are held to account when they seek to exploit their consumers. Katie J. Spielman has experience litigating in the private and public sectors and regularly speaks on disability law issues.

Katie J. Spielman’s practice focuses on disability, health, residential treatment, and mental health insurance claims governed by both the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) and state insurance bad faith law. Katie J. Spielman has worked with clients from all walks of life and backgrounds, and people with mental health, developmental, sensory, and physical disabilities.

Prior to joining DL Law Group, Katie J. Spielman was a staff attorney at Disability Rights California, the federally funded Protection and Advocacy Agency for the state of California. Katie J. Spielman is a graduate of Stanford Law School and Cornell University.
